Rio Tinto

Rio Tinto is located in Spain.  The martian-esque landscape has a mining history dating back to ancient times.  The reddish water gets its hue from dissolving iron and it is also highly acidic(pH 2) on account of the mining.

The Door to Hell

Located in the middle of the Karakum desert in Darvaza, Turkmenistan, a hole with a diameter of 230 ft has burned continuously for 35 years.  A drilling project in this natural gas rich area went wrong. The crew's decision to burn off the poisonous gases ultimately led to the creation of this "Door to Hell."

Kangaroo Island

Located in South Australia, Kangaroo Island rocks look like they came right out of a Dali painting with their surreal quality.  Kangaroo Island offers a diverse landscape: cliffs, beaches, forest and wetlands.  There is also a variety of animal life roaming about the island  including the kangaroo.
